Faith on Friday, Bearded Iris Birthday Card, ODBDSLC277

FOFRotatingBanner

Hello there! It's been a very long time since I've done my Faith on Friday series. My BFF's birthday is coming up soon and I wanted to make her a birthday card. I'm also entering this card into Our Daily Bread Designs Shining the Light Challenge 277 (ODBDSLC277). It's a sketch challenge this month and I flipped the sketch. I used A True Friend stamp set by Our Daily Bread Designs. All of the beautiful die-cut images you see are by Spellbinders Card Creator A2 Devine Eleoquence, S5-218. It has been a very long time since I've used my Spellbinder dies as 90% of my stamp sets have their own coordinating die-cuts. ODBD has a certain style that is very feminine and soft with their design team using a lot of lovely ribbon that is silk or seam binding, Flower Soft and intricate Spellbinders die-cuts on their cards and projects to reflect their style. I went with it as this is very out-of-the-box for me compared to my mixed media projects below, but it's good to be versatile like that. Of course, my favorite style of vintage/shabby chic, I absolutely cannot pull off. I bet I could if I practiced. The first card I ever did in this style got published in CARDS Magazine and we all know how difficult it is to get published with them. I was very surprised.

I decided to do some water coloring with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. I love these markers. They work best on Strathmore Bristol Smooth White 100 lb. paper. It's a matter of preference as some swear by Canson. I've just had the best results on how the ink moves with Bristol. It's a solid card stock and can take a beating. I'm still working on my water coloring skills as I wanted this image to be much more vivid. I did overwork this a bit in that you can see my Archival Ink is a bit dull and this is after stamping the image twice using my MISTI.

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit me today and God bless. There's only 10 days left to follow me on Instagram (link on my sidebar) for a $750 prize package to one very lucky follower. My goal is to get 500 followers and I'm up to 110.

Also, be on the lookout for some great Stampin' Up! Christmas 2016 projects and a haul video in a few days. I LOVE some of the fabulous embellishments, like the miniature jingle bells in red and silver, enamel dots, the tremendous selection of Thinlits that will blow your mind, and several of the stamp sets have images in them that coordinate with the Thinlits in the annual catalog. Talk about stretching your supplies! There's also a lot of bundles and punches. The designer series paper is amazing and there is so much that you can take beyond Christmas. I'll be making a project for you next week using one of my favorite products and do a Top 10 list for you too. I can't wait to start playing and neither will you. If you need a catalog, please let me know.

Have a great day!

1  Cut a piece of My Favorite Things Grout Gray 8-1/2 x 11 card stock to 5-1/2 x 11, turn 90 degrees and score at 4-1/4 for a top-folding landscape A2-size card base.

2  Die-cut a piece of Our Daily Bread Designs Shabby Rose Collection with MFT Blueprints 1 and adhere to the base of the card.

3  Die-cut the largest square of Spellbinders A2 Devine Eleoquence with MFT Grout Gray card stock and adhere to the Shabby Rose paper.

4  Die-cut another piece of ODBD Shabby Rose paper using the 2nd largest Spellbinders A2 Devine Eleoquence and adhere on top of the MFT Grout Gray layered card stock.

5  Die-cut the smallest Spellbinders A2 Devine Eleoquence from Stampin' Up! textured Pink Pirouette card stock and stamp a sentiment from ODBD A True Friend towards the right using Black Archival Ink. Set aside to let dry.

6  Stamp the bearded iris image from ODBD A True Friend onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth White 100 lb. card stock with Black Archival Ink (or Tsunkineko Memento Tuxedo Black Ink). Fill up a cup of clean, clear water. Using a paint brush, lightly brush water over the iris image and color in the image with your choice of colors of Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. I used Pale Pink as my base wash, Pink on the lines of the image and mixed in some Light Carmine and Bright Yellow. I used a Gold Wink of Stella Brush to color in the rolled over petals (3 total) and then lightly brushed over a coat of Clear Wink of Stella. Go back in to soften up or darken up as you wish. The stem was colored with Olive Green. Fussy cut the bearded iris image and use a black marker to trace the edges of the iris to cover the stark white card stock.

7  Cut a long length of Stampin' Up! White Seam Binding Ribbon and tie it around the card, notching the ends into a severe "V" to pull through the edges of the Pink Pirouette die-cut and tie into a double bow.  Trim the ribbon using a diagonal cut. Adhere to the card with foam squares.

8  Adhere the water colored bearded iris image to the left of the card sitting partially on the Pink Pirouette sentiment die-cut with foam squares. Adhere Stampin' Up! large pearls around the card.

9  Stamp the inside of the card with MFT Grout Gray Premium Dye Ink. Die-cut the smallest die from the above-named Spellbinders die-cuts and stamp the sentiment on the die-cut with Black Archival Ink and adhere to the inside of the card with adhesive.
