Creative Chemistry 103 + Distress Stain Resist Technique + Distress Layered Collage Technique

Hello there! Today I have my Tuesday and Wednesday lesson tags I made for Creative Chemistry 103 that I am going to share with you. They are extremely distinctly different. The product and supply list for both tags will be at the bottom of this blog post.

Since this is an online class, there is proprietary and exclusive content, and I need to keep my blog posts sanitized out of respect for Mr. Holtz and not to devalue the investment that other members of the class have made, as we are all learning at the same time. Some of the techniques are not new, a lot of them are, but rules are in place for a reason and I believe that Tim's intellectual property should be protected.

My first tag is using a Distress Stain Technique. I used a rainbow palette of beautiful Distress Spray Stains for this tag and love the way that it turned out. All you need are distress spray stains, remnant rub-ons, Black Archival Ink and an stamped image of your choice, along with the basic tools.

My second tag is an all about Cindy tag. I did not have a plan when I started this tag as to what ephemera I was going to use, so I pulled out my entire stash and went through everything and pulled out images of what I liked and felt represented my past and present life of things I love. I was thrilled to find my birthday on one of the pieces. I'm a big fan of my first initial. I'm divorced and found a picture of a couple and tore it in half and put them at opposite ends of the tag intentionally letting the tear lines show. It's representative. I have never made anything so symbolic or personal before about me and now I'm putting it out there on the entire internet. I'm the only person who really understands this tag. There were no rules. I like gold and lace, which was also used on the tag. Now as I'm writing this up, I really want to pull out a clip that I can attach a word token to and clip it to my lace bow at the top. I used various ephemera, Distress Collage Medium with the Collage Brush Set and 5 Distress Crayons. It was very simple to make and it's definitely a technique that I will be doing again in the future. This type of tag would be a great gift for a friend where you can customize it for anybody. It's a gift that will be cherished.

The only part that I "messed up" with is when I applied the Distress Crayons as I had done collage in the past, but never with the crayons. They were a little dry and I sprayed a tiny bit of water onto my craft sheet to spread it around easier. That defeated the entire purpose to where it's "too perfect" and not the vintage look that I was after. When using Distress Crayons over Distress Collage Medium, use your finger to spread the ink around. It's going to look horrible. That's where you come in with your Distress Sprayer, let the water sit for about 15 seconds and then pick it up with a paper towel or a baby wipe. That is what will give you the beloved true distress blotches. I was able to achieve it in a few places. Overall, I'm very happy with the way that the ME tag turned out.
