For this month, I want to do something a little different. I saw a story about a young teen who will be turning 14 on August 28. Jacob has terminal cancer and this will most likely be his last birthday. I am starting a card drive for him. He has a goal of receiving 10,000 birthday cards by his birthday and nobody does cards better than us, especially when we spread the word. Jacob has gone on record stating that he, "Likes to receive birthday cards because they make me feel better and I read every single one of them when I'm in bed." Let's get to it ladies and gentleman and social media the daylights out of this using the hashtag #cindybcardsforjacob. The link to upload your card is at the very bottom of this blog post.

So many times, the caretaker is often forgotten so if you are inclined, please send a card of encouragement to Jacob's mom.

Here is Jacob's address:

Jacob Priestly

PO Box 855

Queen Creek  AZ  85142

The more entries, the more prizes! For every 50 entries, there will be another prize added for a total of THREE names drawn with THREE prize winners! If I get more than 150 entries, then I'll just keep on adding prizes.

I have a very short, less than 10-minute video below showing you how I made my card and the details of my July Challenge and card drive.

This month, I am going to give away the stamp set that I used by Stampin' Up! of Work of Art. This is a very versatile and fun stamp set.

I had made Jacob and his mother cards and put them in the mail yesterday without taking pictures. That gave me an excuse to make another card and what kid doesn't like a shaker card?! My 21-year-old son even likes shaker cards.

I'm going to go and take a picture of my card now, generate a list of supplies with links and come back and get that up for you. I wanted to get this post up ASAP to notify the challenge winners. The July challenge will close on July 31 at 11:59 pm PST.

I made a side-folding Basic Black A2 card measuring 4-1/4 x 5-1/5. I then cut down a piece of Thick Whisper White card stock to 4 x 5-1/4. I pulled out the Work of Art stamp set by Stampin' Up! I inked up the paint stroke-looking image and stamped that all the way down the Whisper White panel in the center using these colors in the order that they are listed: Real Red, Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight, Wild Wasabi, Island Indigo and Pure Plum. When using Stampin' Up! inks, I've found this to be the best color combination for a bright and fun rainbow. I die-cut a piece of Gold Glimmer Card Stock using the largest Die-Namic from My Favorite Things Stitched Rectangle Scallop Frames and added a clear Window Sheet that I measured and cut down ever so slightly less than the gold frame and adhered it to the gold frame with strong liquid adhesive.

TIP! When you use a Window Sheet, wipe both sides down with a Swiffer cloth to eliminate static. This will also keep the sequins shaking on the inside. Once you have done this, use a strong liquid adhesive to secure the Window Sheet to the frame and push the glue outwards and away from the Window Sheet. You do not want adhesive on your Window Sheet.

I then pulled out these fabulous new Foam Adhesive Strips by Stampin' Up! and they are perfect to use on very thin margins like I had in working with this shaker card. I tripled up the strips, which was so easy to do, all the way around the card leaving no opening at all to prevent my sequins and other shaker items from falling out. Before you dump in your sequins, be sure to take your powder tool and go around the inside of the Window Sheet as there is adhesive on the sides and this will coat the adhesive so that it is no longer sticky. Use your Swiffer cloth to wipe down the Window Sheet again to remove any powder that may be left behind.

After the above, I just pulled out my sequins and matched them up to the rainbow colors I had stamped out and started dumping them in. I have seed beads in there too. This card shakes! And loud too!

I added very strong adhesive to the back using Tear N' Tape and adhered everything to my Basic Black card panel. I die-cut the Big Basic: Birthday Wishes sentiment by Papertrey Ink with Black Glimmer paper. Be sure to keep an eye out for the little tittles so you can dot your I's. I ran the sentiment through my Xyron, used a – what is the name of that tool that is right on top of my tongue? – it has a little ball on each end of it. I used that to trace around the edges, inside and out, of the sentiment to remove any possible icky glue that could be left over and adhered it to the top of the Window Sheet. Done!

God bless and have a great day. Thank you so much for playing along this month and please be sure to post your cards that you send to Jacob and his mom using the link below. Please spread the word on your blog too so that your friends can send cards! I know that Jacob will love and appreciate what you've done and right now, we need some kindness to spread.

  1. Thank you Cindy for all of us receiving a prize for last month challenge, have sent you an email via contact form on your classes as I did not know your email address.

This sounds like a great cause for a card.  I cared for my dad for four years and he passed away recently in my arms at nearly 103 yrs of age…I will endeavour to get a card posted from Australia.xx

  2. Thank you so very much Annie and I did receive your email with your address. My father died 3 years ago on July 29. I am so very sorry for the recent loss of your father. I can honestly say I know how you feel. Hugs my friend!
